Tooth Whitening Care

Everybody wants to have whiter teeth and teeth whitening is one of the latest crazes in our market. This procedure can get rid of the yellow look and make your teeth whiter in just a few weeks!

This treatment is strictly a cosmetic one and can improve the look of your teeth after a relatively short amount of time by removing the stains and other discolorations. You can find a number of reasons why your teeth have stained or started turning yellow. Coffee, tea, dark soda and of course, smoking cigarettes all play a part in how your teeth look. There are pores on your enamel which will hold onto these stains and make it impossible for your brushing to remove them.

If you are getting older, your teeth will also stain and discolor. Sometimes, the teeth will stain from the inside out instead of just on the outside. If this is the case, excess fluoride and some medications could be the cause of these stains. You will need to do regular teeth whitening on the outside of your teeth.

You can get your teeth whitened at the dentist’s office or you can do it yourself at home. If you do it at home, you can use a variety of products available at the local pharmacy or find custom-made trays and solutions prepared by your dentist. Depending on the procedure you use, there is a varying level of times that the process will take. If you are interested in getting your teeth whitened, you can discuss the pros and cons of each method when you visit your dentist.

No matter what, you will want to have your teeth cleaned and have all cavities filled before you start on the teeth whitening. If you have receding gums, it can be a problem if the roots are exposed. If there is not enough enamel on the teeth, the whitening won’t hold. Also, if you have veneers or crowns, the whitening will not stick as well.

The teeth whitening works in a variety of ways. Basically, the trays are loaded with a solution that has hydrogen peroxide in them. The trays will look like a night guard or mouth piece. The trays are then put over the top and bottom of the teeth for one or two hours. If you are doing the trays at home, they are left on overnight.

If you do your teeth whitening at the dentist’s office, the time will be a lot less. You can general see results in a few hours or in a few visits. Of course, the dentist will also be right there to monitor the situation. After all, if the solution leaks, it irritates the gums.

The longer you keep the solution on, the whiter they will be, but there is some discoloration that is nearly impossible to remove. Also, some whitening products only work when activated by light or heat, so your dentist can help with those options.
