Diabetes Complications and Problems

Diabetes is a disease that affects many parts of the body. This disease can cause some serious discomfort and take its toll on many organs and body functions. For the most part the majority of the diabetes complications can be treated and managed.

One of the most common diabetes complications many people suffer from because of medications is hypoglycemia. Diabetes is put into categories based on the levels of glucose in the body. If the glucose is too high in the body it is called hyperglycemia. When treating this you are trying to lower the levels of glucose in the body, and when doing so it can cause too low of levels in the body. This is called hypoglycemia. It is completely treatable through medications and diet.

The most common complications that have been said to stem from diabetes is cardiovascular problems. Having elevated glucose levels over time causes fatty deposits in the blood vessels. This slowly causes a blockage as it constricts the flow of blood. This can often cause heart attacks and strokes, at a much earlier age than a healthy person not suffering from diabetes. Possibly increasing your chances of heart related problems by doubling the risk.

In addition to some of the heart related problems that can be found among diabetics complications is the possibility of having some problems with your vision. The most common diabetes vision problem is usually blurred vision. This is said to be caused by the excess of glucose in the blood, which causes the drawing of fluid out of the tissues and the lenses. With a lack of fluid it can cause a person to have complications trying to focus.

There can also be complications with a diabetics retina. This is usually because of high blood pressure in the patient. The elevated blood pressure often causes the smaller vessels in the eyes to become damaged. This damage causes the eye to become strained and cause the blurred and even double vision as the eye tries to over compensate.

With careful and continuous monitoring of your diabetes complications and medications much of these problems can be avoided, or at least minimized. Changing your eating habits and exercising on a regular basis might be the best way for you to decrease your chances of having any diabetes complications. With a change in your diet you can often find you can easily control your blood pressure as well.

Having high blood pressure can have a long lasting effect on the body, especially on a diabetic. The longer the elevated blood pressure goes untreated the greater your chances of having damage to your nervous system. If the blood vessels in your body are not able to properly function, the rest of your body does not receive adequate blood oxygen, which could very well be disastrous.

Kidney problems can also be a side effect to being a diabetic. The main function of the kidneys is to aid in the filtering of the blood. They are vital in the elimination of the toxins and waste that are in the body. It is very common for diabetes to make it harder for the kidneys to filter they way they are supposed to. In many cases because of the inability to properly function the kidneys leak some proteins into the urine which makes it unavailable for the body to use. If this happens the possibility of the body not being able to eliminate waste. By not being able to eliminate the waste from the body there is now the chance that the waste will be put back into the bloodstream.
