Type 2 Diabetes Causes – Obesity and Diet

The reason one person is diagnosed with diabetes and another isn’t really isn’t completely understood in the medical profession. As if not fully understanding how one and not another gets diabetes isn’t confusing enough, there are few different types of diabetes that one can be diagnosed with. Among the most commonly diagnosed cases of diabetes is Type 1 and Type 2.

There are risk factors that are known and understood. Some of them are diet and environment. In many circumstances just changing your eating habits and environment can reduce the chances of being diagnosed with diabetes. If you have already been diagnosed you can also simply modify your diet and environment and successfully minimize your diabetes symptoms.

It is commonly noticed that there is a connection between obesity and diabetes causes. Being drastically overweight is thought to increase a person’s risk of being diagnosed with diabetes. In Type 2 diabetes causes, it seems more common that it is genetically found. However, if you have an unhealthy diet and the genetics for diabetes your risks have been greatly increased.

Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number that you can change. All that you need to do is change your diet and exercise regimen and you can modify the number to one that is more acceptable for your body type. It is believed in many situations having a BMI of 27 or over you are elevating your chances of being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. This only increases your risk, it does not necessarily mean that you have diabetes. This indicator is a way to determine obesity which in turn can determine the risk of diabetes in the person.

There is more to it than just being overweight. If you have added baggage around the abdominal area this is also a factor to consider. The placement of the excess weight can play a role in the possibility of contracting Type 2 diabetes. It is believed among the medical profession that the extra weight carried around the mid section can increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes. This is however, in combination with having the family history of diabetes.

There have been claims recently that taking a supplement that goes after the body fat around the waistline can decrease your risks and symptoms. However, there actually is no proof whatsoever to this. At this point it all seems to be a marketing tool. The best way to eliminate the weight around the waistline is still through proper diet and exercise.

Maintaining an active lifestyle will increase your metabolism and in turn will burn fat intake at a higher rate. Basically the less active you are the higher the risk of obesity or overweight you will become. With elevated risks for obesity also comes higher risk for being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

By exercising on a regular basis you are burning a larger amount of calories. However, even just sitting around will burn calories, about 70 an hour. Moving your body around stimulates your body and makes it burn more calories at a faster pace. You can increase your blood flow, metabolism, oxygen and strengthen your muscles as well. Making exercise a healthy way to go in all cases.
